PDO Thread Lifts Melbourne
(Non surgical Face Lift)

Looking for a way to achieve a lift but without needing to take a month off work and go through all the pain of a surgical face lift?

Then a PDO thread face lift might be just the answer for you!

A PDO thread lift consists on the insertion of absorbable barbed sutures which attach to the skin and can be pulled up, producing a beautiful and natural lift to counter the normal sagging effect of ageing.

Results achieved are due to immediate tissue repositioning (in a more lifted position) but another added benefit of the procedure is that the PDO material stimulates collagen production, making results even better after a few months!

How is the procedure?

The PDO thread face lift is a procedure where we insert absorbable barbed sutures in the subdermal plane (just under the skin) and subsequently traction them to promote a subtle suspension of the tissues. The suture lines have small barbs in them which will grip the tissue under the skin and as the practitioner pull them up, the tissue is pulled up as well.

Initially the practitioner will do an assessment to see if you are a suitable candidate for the procedure and if good results can be expected. The practitioner will then decide on the direction of pull to achieve best results and do some drawings to where the threads will be inserted.

Following this, cleaning of the skin is performed and local anaesthetics are applied on the entry points and the tracts where the threads will be inserted.

A small entry point will be performed with a needle and the threads are then subsequently inserted through this point. (Yes, there is no cut! The threads go in through a needle entry point!!).

The threads are then pulled upwards to achieve the desired lift, and then the end tips are cut so there is no part hanging out. Dressings are applied. And that’s it! You can now enjoy from the younger look!

How does it work?

Results achieved are due to a few different factors:

  • Immediate tissue repositioning (in a more lifted position:) due to the pull of the threads adhered to the skin
  • Collagen production: PDO material stimulates collagen production, making results even better after a few months!
  • Tissue contraction: fat denaturation occurs due to trauma and presence of the foreign body, which will in turn cause a contraction of the skin and reduction of wrinkles.

Is it painful?

Some pain can be expected from the application of local anaesthetics. This should not be too painful and if you have had local anaesthetics for dental treatments, then this will be much better!

How long does the procedure take?

A PDO thread face lift is performed in the consulting room and take about 30-45 minutes to be performed

How long will it last?

Unfortunately, we cannot possibly control how long it lasts. We can only place the threads the right way and in the right position and then how long it takes for the suture to be reabsorbed will be up to your body.

In general results last from 9-18 months, with an average of around 12-15 months.

A few factors seem to impact on the duration, for example: smoking and having unhealthy lifestyle will likely make results last less than usual.

What is the downtime?

Thread face lift has a much lesser downtime when compared to other lifting procedures and this is one of the reasons it became so popular.

Usually, you will experience a temporary facial drooping and possibly difficulty chewing and blinking due to local anaesthetics (similar to a dental treatment). This normally takes 2-3 hours to resolve.

Swelling and bruising are common but usually mild and can last from a few days to a couple of weeks.

Rippling, tethering or dimpling of the skin is common and will likely last from a couple of days to a couple of weeks.

What are the possible complications?

Complications are not common, but as with any other cosmetic treatment, may occur.

Some of the most common complications are (not limited to):

  • Infection
  • Abscess formation
  • Foreign body reaction (when your body tries to push the thread out of the skin)
  • Feeling the thread
  • Seeing the thread
  • A thread sticking out
  • Thread bending and causing a little lump/spike on the skin, which may or may not be painful
  • Permanent nerve damage has been reported despite being extremely rare
